About
It all started with a needle, thread, fabric and a creative passion for quilting!
I’m Self-Taught in a Myriad of Fiber Arts.
I taught myself to sew, quilt, and crochet, at a young age, around 5. Watching elders around me sewing, quilting, and crocheting became my educational playground. Many years later, I doggedly taught myself to knit. I realized that many of the lovely items I wanted to make couldn’t be beautifully recreated in crochet.
Teaching what I believe…
I firmly believe in the “You CAN Do It” attitude.
This “can do” attitude came at a young age, when my father sat me down to teach me to read and write. And the attitude imprinted itself upon me throughout my career.
No one learns from being stoically reminded of their failures, but rather by being uplifted and encouraged. Uplifting and encouraging others in their quilting journey is what I do. Whether on this website, my YouTube channel or my Facebook group, “You Can Do It” is a common theme.
A Digital Content Creator is Born
The Cutie Quilters Facebook group is where the trail of my online quilting journey began, and where I “accidentally” became a blogger and digital content creator. I can’t stress enough how the atmosphere of this group encouraged me to take risks. And with those risks, I made choices to expand my own horizons…choices that I had not entertained previously. I became a YouTube content creator to vlog about the Cutie frame on my channel Quilting on a Thread with Bonnie Kempke.
It is my hope you, too, will take calculated risks, learn more about your craft and expand your own horizons.
I hope to inspire you on your creative journey and be inspired by you while I share my thoughts, lessons learned, and tips from my studio.

Content Creator
I am so excited that you’ve landed on my blog, Quilting on a Thread! I love to create with all kinds of fibers. I’ve always been crafty, starting with a needle and thread or yarn and a crochet hook.
Over the years, in my free time, I taught others to sew or quilt for the shear enjoyment of sharing. Therefore, it was a natural progression to create a Facebook group.
Unexpected Successes
In 2021, I bought my first quilting frame, the Grace Company Cutie frame. And almost immediately, I started the Cutie Quilters Facebook group. I expected fewer than 100 members to join me on the Cutie Quilters journey. After two years, we are over 8,000 members and growing every day.
In the Spring of 2022, the Grace Company named me a Grace Ambassador due to the Cutie Quilters Facebook group growth. Being an Ambassador was such an honor. In June of 2023, the Grace Company bestowed an even greater honor upon me. With no storefront to my name, the Grace Company named me a Grace Affiliate!
This website is the latest stepping stone along my journey – sharing my passion for quilting with you and others.
